Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are ‘not natural finishers’ claims former Liverpool hero Michael Owen following Newcastle draw

Michael Owen bizarrely claimed that Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are ‘not natural finishers’ after Jurgen Klopp’s men drew 1-1 with Newcastle on Saturday.

Joe Willock’s injury-time goal cancelled out Salah’s third-minute strike to put a huge dent in the Reds’ chances of reaching the top four.

Liverpool had 22 shots in total against the Magpies, although only nine of those were on target.

And one of those was Salah’s brilliant early effort, but former Anfield hero Michael Owen remains far from convinced about Mane and the former’s goalscoring prowess.

“That’s the problem: Mane, brilliant player, scores lots of goals. Salah, unbelievable player as well, scores lots of goals,” Owen said on BT Sport.

“But they’re not natural finishers, they’re not someone that you can hang your hat on.

“They’ve scored goals consistently because Liverpool have, like today, created so many chances.

“But they’ve been wanting, or the team have been found wanting a lot of the season with missed chances.”

In Owen’s defence, even Klopp expressed his frustration at his misfiring Reds for their dismal points tally against the Premier League’s bottom six.
