When Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, he might have been breaking British law. The actor told DeGeneres about that time he was invited to meet the Queen, and revealed a secret about Buckingham Palace in the process.
“I got an email in my inbox from the Secretary of the Masters of the House, and I immediately thought it was one of my friends playing a prank on me, because that’s exactly what they would do, send me to London to meet the Queen fakely,” he joked.
But the invite turned out to be very real, and soon him and his wife, Neha Kapur, were on their way to Buckingham Palace. But the monument isn’t all that it seems. “The front of the palace—and I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this. I’ll just say it, whatever. The front of the palace is actually a façade, because you drive through that façade and then there’s another courtyard and then there’s another entrance,” he revealed, making us question everything we thought we knew about the royal family.
Once inside, the actor proceeded to have “the worst panic attack,” stumbling over his words when he made the Queen’s presence. After recovering from the anxiety, Nayyar also revealed that he met the Duchess of Cambridge. “Princess Kate told my wife that she’s beautiful,” he said, joking that she didn’t say anything of the sort to him.
