The Croatian has fallen down the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde following the summer arrival of Frankie de Jong from Ajax.
Rakitic, 31, signed for Barcelona in 2014 from Sevilla and has gone on to record more than 250 appearances for the club.
But he has started just one game so far this season and, in an interview with Universo Valdano, the World Cup finalist revealed that he’s not happy with his current role at the club.
Rakitic explained: “How can I enjoy myself? By playing football.
“How does my youngest daughter feel if I take her toy from her? She’s sad. I feel the same: they have taken the ball from me and I am sad.”
He continued: “I understand and respect the decisions made by the coach (Ernesto Valverde) and the club, but I think I’ve given a lot in the last five and a bit years here and the only thing I want is to be able to keep enjoying myself. That’s the most important thing for me.”
