The 45-year-old played for Valencia, Lazio, Barcelona and Middlesbrough during his playing career, but it appears he is now making use of other talents.

Mendieta is the guest DJ at The Shacklewell Arms in the city this weekend.

The event page for his appearance says he will be playing a mix of indiepop, post-punk, new wave and sixties music.

Doors to the event opens at 11pm, according to the Dice.FM website with tickets costing £11.

Mendieta retired from playing football in 2008 after a successful 17-year playing career.

He spent nine seasons at Valencia where he won the Copa del Rey and twice finished Champions League runner-up.

From there he moved to Lazio but after one season was loaned back to LaLiga where he joined Barcelona.

In 2003, he moved to Middlesbrough where he spent five seasons but was limited to 83 appearances because of injury problems.

Mendieta is now a full-time DJ and he made his first appearance at Spain’s Benicassim festival nine years ago.
