Claudio Ranieri set for his NINTH managerial stint in Serie A after former Leicester City boss takes charge of Sampdoria

Ranieri, 67, replaced Eusebio di Francesco who was sacked on Monday with the club bottom following a dismal run of six defeats in seven matches.

Remarkably, it is the second time in seven months that the Italian has succeeded Di Francesco, after taking over from the 50-year-old at Roma in March.

Ranieri’s latest job is his 20th managerial appointment and marks his ninth spell working in Serie A.

He is best remembered for leading 5,000/1 outsiders Leicester to a fairytale Premier League triumph in 2016, but nine months was axed by the Foxes.

Ranieri has since gone on to manage Nantes in France, before returning to the English top flight for an unsuccessful spell with Fulham in 2018/19.
