Another trophyless year appeared likely, and the rumour was that Sir Alex would be sacked if United lost at Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup.
But that never came to pass, as Robins scored a header to win the game – and the Red Devils went on to win the entire competition, kickstarting Sir Alex’s domination of English football.
Robins became known for scoring ‘the goal that saved Fergie’, and he agrees that Solskjaer needs to be given time to restore United to their former glories.
