Hamann, 45, who also played for Newcastle United and Manchester City, was arrested for allegedly pushing the woman during a holiday in Sydney.
Police were called to an address in Randwick in Sydney’s east at 2:15am on Friday regarding a domestic incident.
The former midfielder, who represented Germany 59 times at international level, was arrested and subsequently charged with common assault.
Police said the woman was not injured, however, they took out an apprehended violence order (AVO) to protect her.
