Sounders move closer to matching MLS record with win over Dynamo

The club moved closer to tying the LA Galaxy for most consecutive postseason berths thanks to a win over the Houston Dynamo

The Seattle Sounders moved one step closer to an MLS record on Monday night thanks to a lopsided win over the Houston Dynamo.

A Victor Rodriguez brace led the way while Will Bruin and Cristian Roldan also added goals as the Sounders cruised past the Houston Dynamo by a 4-1 scoreline.

With the victory, the Sounders moved closer to locking up a postseason berth while also extended the club’s recent run to 11 wins from 13 matches.

The Sounders are aiming to now make the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons, matching the MLS record set by the LA Galaxy during the team’s run from 1996-2005.

If the club does finalize a postseason spot, the Sounders will have made the playoffs in each year of its existence, with the most recent two seasons ending in MLS Cup appearances.

Monday’s match started with Bruin’s finish in the 18th minute. Roldan provided the assist on Bruin’s opener before scoring a goal of his own in the 34th minute.

In the second half, Rodriguez took over, scoring first in the 64th minute and added a second nine minutes later.

DaMarcus Beasley scored a late consolation goal for the U.S. Open Cup winners, who sit 11 points out of the playoff picture with 14 games remaining.

The Sounders, meanwhile, sit on 50 points, one pont behind the rival Portland Timbers for fourth place with a game in hand. The third-place Los Angeles FC picked up their 50th point of the season with a 3-0 win over the lowly Colorado Rapids over the weekend.
