Lyon winger Memphis Depay has listed the six clubs he would consider joining in the summer and Manchester United are not among them.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United inserted a buy-back clause in his Lyon contract when he was sold to the Ligue 1 outfit in January 2017, which means the Dutchman could be offered a second chance at Old Trafford in the near future.
Since completing his switch to France, Depay has reignited his career, scoring 33 goals in 93 appearances for Lyon in total, with his best performances coming this season.
Lyon are into the Champions League knockout phases and sit third in Ligue 1, with Depay featuring in 29 of their matches across all competitions, impressing in a central role in the attack.
The Netherlands international still harbours hope of playing for the world’s biggest clubs once again though and in an interview with Helden Magazine, he has revealed his preferred next destination would be at any of six top European clubs.
“Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe,” Depay told Helden Magazine, as per FC Update.
“I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.
Depay at Man United
“I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football, I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold, gruesome, but I focus on now at Lyon and then we see where I end up.”
Depay was a flop during his two-year spell at United, appearing in just over 50 matches and only managing to hit eight goals, falling way down the pecking order under then boss Jose Mourinho.
Despite his troubled time at Old Trafford, it had been suggested that he might fancy a second bite of the cherry at the club, to prove his doubters wrong and fulfil the potential he showed as a younger player at PSV Eindhoven.
However, his latest comments seem to suggest that Man United are no longer on his radar and that a move to another top European league could be on the cards come the summer, especially if his high levels of performance continue at Lyon between now and May.
