LOS ANGELES, CA — A bomb threat shut down a major Southern California Freeway for hours overnight.

The threat, involving a suspect wanted by Los Angeles School Police Department officers, shut down the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in the Porter Ranch area and backed up traffic for miles.

The incident began around 8:25 p.m. when L.A. School Police officers spotted a suspect from an ongoing investigation in the Northridge area, KTLA reported. The suspect reportedly refused to pull over, triggering a freeway chase that ended when the driver stopped near the Reseda Boulevard offramp and told arresting officers he had explosive devices in his vehicle, KTLA reported.

Police shut down the freeway and called in the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad to investigate the vehicle. The investigation shut down both sides of the freeway before the bomb squad ultimately cleared the threat.

In the end, no explosive device was found in the vehicle, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer J. Chaves.. The bomb squad cleared the vehicle by 1 a.m. Saturday.
